EMILY DICKINSON. 609

Edvard Munch (1863 - 1944). Pintor noruego.

Me mira imperturbable
Y me pregunte Qué hago allí-

I Years had been from Home
And now before the Door
I dared not enter, lest a Face
I never saw before

Stare stolid into mine
And ask my Business there-
«My Business but a Life I left
Was such remaining there?»

I leaned upon the Awe-
I lingered with Before-
The Second like and Ocean rolled
And broke against my ear-

I laughed a crumbling Laugh
That I could fear a Door
Who Consternation compassed
And never winced before

I fitted to the Latch
My Hand, with trembling care
Lest back the awful Door should spring
And leave me in the Floor-

Then moved my Fingers off
As cautiously as Glass
And held my ears, and like a Thief
Fled gasping from the House-

Charles Courtney Curran (1861 – 1942). Pintor estadounidense. The Veiled cloud,1926

Yo de Mí misma –desterrarme-
Si el Don tuviera-
Inexpugnable mi Fortaleza
A todo Corazón-

Mas puesto que a Mí misma- asalto-
¿Cómo hallar paz
Si no es sometiendo
A la Conciencia?

Y, puesto que Monarcas somos mutuos,
¿Cómo lograrlo
Si no es Abdicando-
Yo –de Mí?

Traducción: Amalia Rodríguez Monroy

Me from Myself –to banish-
Had I Art-
Impregnable my Fortress
Unto All Heart-

But since Myself- assault Me-
How have I peace
Except by subjugating
Consciousness?

And since We’re mutual Monarch
How this be
Except by Abdication-
Me- of Me?

My life closed twice before its close-
It yet remains to see
If Immortality unveil
A third event to me

So huge, so hopeless to conceive
As these that twice befell.
Parting is all we know of heaven,
And all we need of hell.

Javier de la Cruz García (1973). Pintor español. Tela de araña.

La Araña sostiene un Ovillo de Plata
     En su Mano invisible-
Y mientras baila despacio para Sí
Su Hilo de Perla –ella Devana-

Aplicada va de Nada a Nada-
     Insustancial Industria-

The Spider holds a Silver Ball
     In unperceived Hands-
     And dancing softly to Himself
     His Yarn of Pearl –unwinds-

He plies from Nought to Nought-
     In unsubstantial Trade-
     Supplants our Tapestries with His-
     In half the period-

     An Hour to rear supreme
     His Continents of Light-
Then dangle from the Housewife’s Broom-
     His Boundaries –forgot-

Adolfo Lozano Sidro (1872-1935). Pintor español. Velatorio

There´s been a Death, in the Opposite House,
As lately as Today-
I know it, by the numb look
Such Houses have –alway-

The Neighbors rustle in and out-
The Doctor –drives away-
A Window opens like a Pod-
Abrupt –mechanically-

Somebody flings a Mattress out-
The Children hurry by-
They wonder if it died –on that-
I used to –when a Boy-

The Minister –goes stiffly in-
As if the House were His-
And He owned all the Mourners -now-
And little Boys –besides-

And then the Milliner –and the Man
Of the Appalling Trade-
To take the measure of the House-
There’ll be that Dark Parade-

Of Tassels –and of Coaches-soon-
It’s easy as a Sign-
The Institution of the News-
In just a Country Town-
