EMILY DICKINSON. 364

Edvard Munch (1863-1944). Pintor y grabador noruego. Atardecer en el paseo Karl Johann (1892)

La Mañana que sigue al Dolor-
Suele ocurrir así-
Supera a todo lo anterior-
En puro Júbilo-

Como era indiferente la Naturaleza-
Su Florecer siguió-
Y para celebrar esa Alegría
Su Víctima también la contempló-

Los Pájaros declaman su Canción-
Pronuncian todo bien
Como un Mazo – ¿Sabían que caían
Como el Plomo de una Letanía?-

Aquí y allá –una criatura-
Cambian entonces el tono de Gozo
Para acompañar en clave de Crucifixión-
Alguna Nota para el Calvario-

The Morning after Woe-
‘Tis frequently the Way-
Surpasses all that rose before-
For utter Jubilee-

As Nature did not care-
And piled her Blossoms on-
And further to parade a Joy
Her Victim stared upon-

The Birds declaim their Tunes-
Pronouncing every word
Like Hammers –Did they know they fell
Like Litanies of Lead-

On here and there –a creature-
They’d modify the Glee
To fit some Crucifixal Clef-
Some Key of Calvary-

Carl Gustav Carus (1789-1869). Pintor alemán.

Soy «Esposa» con eso ya he terminado—
Ese otro estado—
Soy Zar –ahora soy «Mujer»--
Es más seguro así—

Qué extraña resulta la vida de la Joven
Oculta tras este tenue Eclipse—
La Tierra debe parecer lo mismo
A los que están en el Cielo ahora

Si esto es consuelo—entonces
Lo otro—era dolor—
Más ¿Por qué comparar?
¡Soy «Esposa»! ¡Y basta!

Traducción: Amalia Rodríguez Monroy

I’m «wife»--I’ve finished that—
That other state–
I’m Czar–I’m «Woman» now—
It’s safer so—

How odd the Girl´s life looks
Behind this soft Eclipse—
I think that Earth feels so
To folks in Heaven –now—

This being comfort—then
That other kind—was pain—
But why compare?
¡I’m «Wife»! ¡Stop there!
